McInerney School Class Feis Information
It's time again to get ready for the class feis. The "Veterans" know that this feis is only open to dancers from our school and many people bring friends and family to watch them dance. We always put detailed information about the feis here so that new families know what to expect.
This year we are doubly busy as we will be hosting an "Open Feis" in August as well. This August feis is also open to all dancers, including dancers from other schools.
5/9 Class Feis Updates:
The final time schedule is posted. Dancers should arrive an hour before dance time and be dressed and ready to go 1/2 hour before their scheduled time. Scroll down for more info about costumes, curls etc.
Advance tickets are now available. This is a great way to "invite" grandparents and friends, to see your child dance without them having to pay upon arriving. Order forms are available at the studio. Tickets are $10 per person, children under 6 are free.
Class Feis Information: Completing the registration form: Print your own registration form using the link at the right. This is a standard feis syllabus form. If this is your first feis, review the competitions with Mary. Ages are based on your FEIS AGE, which is your age on 1/1/08. There have been some entries with the wrong ages on them so here is an example:
A child's birthday is 3/2/2000. This child is currently 8 years old. On January 1st of 2008, this child was 7. Their FEIS AGE is 7. Their dance category is "Under 8" or whatever the next highest age group cut off is. ( U-9, U-10 etc) They are not Under 7 because they are 7.
Stage helpers, many of whom the young children have seen at classes will be on hand as your child steps on the stage, as will Mary Mac. It isn't a frightening. "spotlight" moment for most young ones because they are well prepared in class for their steps. Even though they might not be able to tell you the difference between a jig and a reel, they know it when they hear the music.
Further Details will be posted soon, so please check back!
A school feis is a tradition in Irish Dance. It promises to be a happy day for all the dancers and their families. There will be an admission fee at the door. Nice awards are being ordered to recognize each child's progress during the year.
The time schedule will be determined when all the entries have been received. As with any feis, the schedule is approximate and you should be ready to dance at least 3/4 hour before your time AND it could also begin later than estimated.
Vendors will be available with a variety of Irish Dance supplies and gift items. People looking for new shoes, wigs, tiaras etc will be able to make these purchases on Feis Day.
Many volunteer opportunities are available, so please check the web-site.
